INSTALLATION FOR THE BUGS
This installation is Goetz’s contribution to the DISTRO PROJECT, which was developed and led by Cooper Holoweski (with help from Emmy Bright). The DISTRO PROJECT was a Cranbrook Print Media Department experiment to create community and radically altar environments by employing the printmaking tenets of editioning and distribution. This project was made with funds from the Applebaum Family Compass Grant; many thanks to the Eugene Applebaum Family.
Each participant of the DISTRO PROJECT was challenged to make an edition of works for a group of non-traditional art viewers. From a hat, each artist chose an edition size and a group; this installation is an edition of 38 works of art for bugs. The works are installed on the Cranbrook Grounds and placed in conversation with the Art Rocks. Materials used include Tupperware, mushrooms, and local dirt, and each Tupperware serves as a resting station for bugs. The mix of plastic and natural draws attention to the artificiality of the lawn, and the two unlikely habitats reflect the man-made natures of their creations.
